Universities in Tripura
The state of Tripura in India, formed in the year 1972, is one of the newest territories of the country. But the progress that Tripura has shown in different sectors of the economy including education is indeed commendable. Women education is highly promoted in Tripura; the government has introduced several programs to encourage more and more women in the society to enroll in schools and colleges. According to the census reports of the year 2011, Tripura has a literacy rate of 87.75%. This is a marvelous improvement from the earlier rate of 73.19% recorded in the census of 2001.
The state has some premier educational institutes like Tripura University, ICFAI University, Agartala Government Medical College, Tripura Institute of Technology, National Institute of Technology, Tripura Institute of Technology and others. The numerous universities and institutes in the state provide higher education in agriculture, horticulture, law, medical, technology, Vedic, veterinary ayurvedic, homeopathy, etc. Tripura University is a Central University that was recognized by the University Grant Commission (UGC)
in the year 1988. This institution has 34 affiliated colleges under it which offer undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the professional, technical and general fields.
The government of Tripura aids the poverty stricken children to learn by providing free education to all children between the ages of 6 to 14 years. Students are encouraged to pursue higher education.
