Educational Profile of Tripura
Tripura was formed in the year 1972 and is comparatively one of the newest states. Despite this, it has made reasonable development in the fields of education with a literacy rate of 94.65%. The department of education of the state is comprised of school education, higher education and social welfare and social education department. The state government introduced the free compulsory education policy for the students who are in the age group of 6 and 14 years.
School Education in Tripura
Schools in Tripura are divided into primary, secondary and higher secondary. Students in almost every part of Tripura are entitled to free education till class VIII going by the principles of the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan. Tripura schools are run by the state government or by private organisations, including religious institutions. Instruction is mainly in English or Bengali, though Kokborok and other tribal languages are also used. The schools are affiliated to CSE, CBSE and state board. Students can chose any combination from humanities, science and commerce streams after class 10. St. Paul’s School, Bhavans Tripura Vidyamandir, Holy Cross School and Assam Rifles School are some of the best schools of Tripura.
Higher Education in Tripura
The state has some premier educational institutes like Tripura University, ICFAI University, Agartala Government Medical College, Tripura Institute of Technology, National Institute of Technology, Tripura Institute of Technology and others. The State has one Central University (Tripura University)and one private University ( a branch of the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India). Tripura Institute of Technology, National Institute of Technology provide BE BTech courses while Bhavan’s Tripura College of Communication and Management provides courses in management. Two medical colleges (Agartala Government Medical College and Tripura Medical College), provide medial courses to the students in and around Tripura.
